Suburban Snow Plow
Logo Design / Website Redesign - Suburban Snow Plow

Suburban Snow Plow

Suburban Snow Plow is a snow and ice management firm serving the Philadelphia region for over 40 years.  What started out as a one-man snow plow side business with a handful of clients in 1973, has since grown into a full-scale operation with seven in-house plow trucks, two Bobcat skid-steer loaders, mini-plows for clearing sidewalks, and much, much more.  Every time it snows, SSP dispatches over a dozen crews covering over 160 individual job sites.

Clearly, this was no longer a side business.  To keep pace with growth, SSP looked to re-tool its public image with a new logo and brand identity.  Their website also, having been relegated to an afterthought over the past decade, needed a face lift.  They turned to epixian for a consultation.

We initiated our standard creative process by learning about the company, its history, and values, and researching their techniques, equipment, and production processes.  We took this information and generated a handful of rough concept designs and multiple iterations of each, gathering feedback and comments at every stage and re-incorporating new ideas into the design.

In SSP’s case, we took inspiration from some of the really cool equipment they use on the job.  SSP’s plow trucks are fitted with Wide-Out snow plows made by Western Products.  This particular plow features movable “wings” that extend width of the main plow blade from 8′ to 10′, an increase in efficiency of 25% compared to a regular 8′ plow.  Additionally, the wings can hinge forward, creating a “scoop” that provides a higher level of snow control.

epixian incorporated this “scoop” in the final design for SSP’s logo (below), connecting the quality and efficiency inherent in Western’s plow design to SSP’s overall mission, values, and commitment to quality, while providing visually cues to the type of products and services they offer.  Moreover, it serves to remind us that even a simple concept can capture the essence of an organization while at the same time projecting a strong and unique brand image.

We’ve since incorporated this design into various marketing materials, including tent canopies, banners, flyers, and door hangers.

Additionally, we overhauled their website with a clean, responsive design:
